CNN Feature Editor Jenni Marsh has been covering China/Africa relations for nearly a decade. China has been accused of colonising Africa with President Xi Jinping trying to become the Emperor of Africa. Marsh explores and portrays this dynamic in her book Becoming Chinese, How Africa Fell under the Spell of a Rising Power (Zed Books). Through a series of human stories which go beyond the geopolitics she examines how this relationship has changed people’s lives and altered racial stereotypes, norms, hierarchies in some places, and presents us with a new version of Africa, no longer seen exclusively through the Western lens.
